On Friday, July 5th 2024 a team from the World Bank led by the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project (UCSATP) Task Team Leader visited NAGRC&DB to discuss the next steps ahead of the project implementation.
The National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) proudly participated in the Harvest Money Expo held in Kololo at the Independence grounds from 23rd February till the 25th February 2024. The event served as a vibrant platform for farmers, agricultural enthusiasts, industry experts, students, and stakeholders to converge and celebrate the latest advancements, innovations, and accomplishments in the field of agriculture.
From 6th to 8th December, NAGRC&DB joined the rest of the African scientists to take part in the open Institute East and Central African regional workshop 2023, the three-day practical session focused on how biological samples also commonly referred to as genetic resources can be ethically acquired from the owners.
Twenty-five scientists from eastern and central Africa have benefitted from training to identify, isolate, conserve and improve poultry genetic resources, which are key measures in protecting and enhancing the value of Africa’s indigenous chickens.
The new board for the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) has been asked to work towards the improvement of access to better technologies by livestock farmers across the country.
“Farmers out there are yearning for better genetics in order to improve their farms. You have to make sure that these technologies here reach the farmers who need them,” Colonel Bright Rwamirama, State Minister in charge of Animal Husbandry said.
The National Animal Genetics Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) has released one hundred 100 assorted superior dairy breeding bulls to farmers who are members of dairy cooperatives identified across the country. This is a routine program of the Centre which is conducted at all its fifteen 15 Animal Genetic Resources Centres located in different agro-ecological zones across the country.
Ben Anyama is the new board chairman of the NationalAnimalGenetics Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB). Dr Bright Rwamirama, the state minister for Animal Industry, introduced the new board on October 17 while officiating at the handover of 100 bulls to the beneficiary farmers following the official inaugural ceremony of the new board of directors of NAGRC&DB in Entebbe.
