NAGRC&DB Supports Establishment of Farmer-Led Livestock Breed Societies

For two weeks this month of July 2026, the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) conducted needs assessments among livestock farmers in Mbale and Nakasongola districts under the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project (UCSATP).

In Nakasongola District, the assessment was undertaken in collaboration with Nakasongola Livestock Company (NALICO), bringing together farmers, breeders and technical experts to identify common breeding priorities and organisational needs.

The findings will guide the establishment of sustainable, farmer-led breed societies that strengthen organised breeding, promote genetic improvement, improve access to quality breeding services, and support more productive and climate-resilient livestock systems in Uganda.
