NAGRC&DB Showcases Genetic Innovations, Wins Best Government Agency Award at the 32nd National Agricultural Show
JINJA, UGANDA – The National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) successfully concluded its participation in the 32nd National Agricultural Show, held at the Agricultural Show Grounds in Jinja from June 26 to July 5, 2026. The ten-day event highlighted NAGRC&DB’s pivotal role in transforming livestock productivity across the country, culminating in the prestigious Best Government Agency Award.
High-Profile Official Opening
The trade show commenced with an official opening ceremony officiated by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja, who represented H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. Accompanied by the Minister of State for Animal Industry, Hon. Bright Rwamirama, the Prime Minister led a delegation that interacted with various agricultural innovations. NAGRC&DB joined fellow exhibitors to welcome a diverse audience of local farmers, institutional investors, development partners, and members of the general public.
Driving Livestock Productivity at the NAGRC&DB Village
Throughout the exhibition, the custom-built “NAGRC&DB Village” served as a primary hub for farmers seeking to build more productive and profitable animal enterprises. Experts from the agency demonstrated how improved animal genetics directly boost farm yields and household income.
Visitors explored specialized exhibitions across a wide range of agricultural sectors, including:
- Dairy and beef cattle management and selection
- Piggery and goat multiplication strategies
- Poultry and rabbit rearing techniques
- Fish farming and sustainable aquaculture
- Apiary management for quality honey production
In addition to live animal exhibits, NAGRC&DB showcased modern Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ARTs). These advanced animal breeding technologies are designed to help Ugandan farmers accelerate genetic gains, improve disease resistance, and maximize livestock output.
Dialogue, Recognition, and Official Closure
The event concluded with a Farmers’ Dialogue presided over by Hon. Lt. Col. (Rtd) Bright Rwamirama, providing an open forum for stakeholders to discuss the future of the animal industry. The official closing ceremony was later hosted by Hon. Desire Muhooza, Minister of State for Agriculture, representing the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze.
The agency’s efforts to provide actionable agricultural solutions were recognized at the closing ceremony, where NAGRC&DB was officially named the Best Government Agency at this year’s show. Management extended its appreciation to all the farmers, stakeholders, and visitors whose engagement contributed to a highly successful exhibition.
