The National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) on Friday, 11 September 2026, concluded a 20-day Artificial Insemination (AI) training for 50 technicians at the NAGRC&DB Ruhengyere Ranch in Kiruhura District, under the Green Dairy Investment Programme (GDI).
The programme, implemented by Heifer International in partnership with aBi Development Ltd, seeks to promote climate-smart dairy production and strengthen the resilience and productivity of Uganda’s dairy sector.
The training strengthens the availability of skilled AI service providers to support dairy farmers with improved breeding services and access to superior genetics. Training of Artificial Insemination technicians and facilitating access to improved breeds are among the key interventions under GDI.
Running from September 2025 to October 2028, GDI targets 37,000 smallholder farmers and promotes climate-smart practices including improved breeding, feed systems, renewable energy, animal health, water management and mechanisation.
Through initiatives such as the AI technicians’ training, NAGRC&DB continues to contribute to animal genetic improvement and increased access to breeding technologies, supporting more productive and resilient dairy farming in Uganda.
