Together with the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries, NAGRC&DB hosted a team from the African Development Bank (AfDB) that is reviewing the performance of the Agricultural Value Chain Development Programme (AVCP).
Accompanying the AfDB team was the MAAIF AVCP project team headed by the National Coordinator Mr. Fred Mayanja and the NAGRC&DB project team.
The Agricultural Value Chain Development Programme (AVCP) – Project 1 is a public sector investment project of the government of Uganda implemented through the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries with support from the African Development Bank.
It is a five-year project implemented along a commodity value chain framework, with focus on three community value chains, namely, Rice, Maize, and Dairy/Beef value chains
Under this project (AVCP), NAGRC&DB is charged with facilitating the promotion, access to, and use of appropriate breeds for the Dairy and Beef enterprises.
The workshop was held in Mpigi District chosen to represent the 15/16 project districts benefitting from the Dairy and Beef subcomponent implemented by NAGRC&DB.
During the workshop, farmers expressed their appreciation of the project and also pointed out some of the challenges they face with dairy and beef farming which the Project Team from MAAIF promised to handle.
Some of these challenges included pasture seed, knowledge, and skills in pasture establishment, harvesting, preservation, and feeding as well as disease control.
