Rubona stock farm


Location: Bunyangabu district, 22km south of Fortportal town along Fort portal – Kasese highway at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountain ranges, Kisomoro sub-conty.

Production system: Fenced dairy. Climate suitable for exotic dairy breeds

The overall objective of the farm is to produce good quality animals for sale to farmers to improve the productivity of their herds and thus income, thereby contributing to national food security and poverty alleviation and to generate revenue for sustainability of the farm.

Specific objectives

  • Multiplication of variety of pure-bred exotic dairy cattle (Friesian, Jersey, Guernsey, and Ayrshire) stocks for sale to dairy farmers
  • Involve the farming communities in animal genetic improvement and modern animal husbandry programmes through demonstrations and nucleus breeding activities (Rubona to be a model farm)
  • Offer practical training to extension workers, training institutions and general public.
  • Introduce high performing meat goat breeds to produce well-bred and properly recorded stock for sale to farmers for breeding.
